Vic: Police Association to work with govt in reviewing budget
The Police Association has vowed to work with the state government to fix what it claims
is a funding crisis in the Victorian police force.
The state government has announced it will review the force's $1.2 billion budget,
following union claims the force is under-funded and under-resourced.
While pleased with the announcement, the association's secretary Senior Sergeant PAUL
MULLETT says long-term funding for the force must be addressed.
He says police are an essential emergency service -- not a business -- and the funding
model should be significantly changed.
The review follows association claims that state crime squads and support services
such as DNA analysis are being compromised by a funding crisis.
