Fed: Canberra needs memorial to black suffering bishop
The Anglican Bishop of Canberra-Goulburn GEORGE BROWNING wants Canberra to be the home
of a national memorial recognising the pain and suffering of Aborigines.
Bishop BROWNING says such a monument should be the place where the Council for Aboriginal
Reconciliation's declaration of reconciliation, to be released next month, is signed.
In his Easter message, the bishop says the monument should be sited at the entrance
to Anzac Parade, where it intersects with Constitution Avenue.
The Anglican Primate of Australia, Archbishop PETER CARNLEY, has also attacked the
government's denial that there had been a generation of stolen Aboriginal children.
And Sydney Archbishop HARRY GOODHEW says the Northern Territory and Western Australian
laws om mandatory sentencing is an abuse of the justice system that discriminates against
Aborigines.
