Iran beats UAE 3-0 in Asian Cup

DOHA, Qatar (AP) — A second-string Iran team defeated the United Arab Emirates 3-0 on Wednesday to send the Gulf nation out of the Asian Cup in a match both teams finished with 10 men.

Iran was already sure of advancing to the quarterfinals and became the only team to finish the group stage with three wins from three games and topped Group D ahead of Iraq, which beat North Korea 1-0.

"I'm happy to go to second stage with a perfect record and to be the only team with nine points. Having said that, all teams start fresh and it's like a new tournament," Iran coach Afshin Ghotbi said.
