Fed: Therpaeutic cloning winning support among MPs

Laws banning therapeutic cloning would probably be overturned if a conscience vote
was held today.

Twice as many MPs have told a survey they're likely to support the change .. as those
who would vote against it.

Over the past 11 days .. 124 of parliament's 226 members and senators were asked their
intentions.

All up .. 52 MPs said they were likely to support therapeutic cloning .. 27 said they
probably wouldn't .. 22 haven't decided .. and 23 wouldn't comment.

Fairfax newspapers say Labor MPs are much more likely than government MPs to support
the legislation.

But several cabinet members indicated support for a change .. despite agreeing in June
to maintain the status quo.

They included Environment Minister Senator IAN CAMPBELL .. Defence Minister BRENDAN
NELSON .. Education Minister JULIE BISHOP .. and Families Community Services and Indigenous
Affairs Minister MAL BROUGH.
